While many people may purchase the lot for their new home, and may possibly even have a floor plan in place before they start looking for the right builder, the reality is that it is oftentimes best to bring in your builder right from the start.
There are actually several good reasons for this. For example first, the lot that you have in place could end up requiring an extensive amount of work before you are able to put a home on the location. In this case, there may be extensive underground rock (or vice versa, not enough stability in the ground). It may also be quite costly – and difficult – to run power and / or sewage lines to the location.
Working with the builder prior to purchasing your lot can be extremely helpful, then, as they can provide you with the details on how much it may cost for these additional expenses – or if it makes more sense to opt for another piece of land.
If you already have a floor plan in mind, it can also be helpful to involve the builder early in the process, so that you can ensure that what you want is possible – and if not, the builder may be able to offer you some viable alternatives.
An experienced builder will be able to provide you with a great deal of knowledge which can make the overall custom home building process go much more smoothly. They can also give you the assistance that you need in designing a home that meets your specific wants and needs.
