Funding the Extras on Your New Custom HomeEven with all of the most intricately and well thought out planning, when you are in the process of building a new custom home, it may be that you decide to add one or more additional options or amenities after the construction process has begun.

But, if you and the builder have already agreed on a price (and provided that the add-ons are even possible to include), how do you adjust monetarily for such changes?

There are actually a couple of ways that you can go about doing this. One way is to work with the builder directly and in turn, to directly pay cash for the added features. Alternatively, it may also be possible to finance the changes via a separate home or construction loan.

In still other cases, if the materials and labor necessary to make the change is coming from an outside contractor or source, funding issues may be possible directly via that particular company or provider.

It is important to note that, in some cases, making significant changes to your new home’s plan may not be possible. For example, a major redesign and / or structural adjustments may not be feasible, based on just how far along the process is. With that in mind, be sure that any type of change to the home’s foundation should ideally be done during the design phase, and not during the actual construction of the property.

And, even if you are leaning more towards some “simple” adjustments like the layout of the kitchen cabinets or the color of the walls, letting the builder know sooner rather than later can be much more advantageous in terms of completion and cost effectiveness.
