Reading
A low tiled roof, dark-framed openings and a taller central entry give Reading a clear presence beneath mature trees. The finished interiors bring together white cabinetry, warm wood-grain floors and tall glazed doors, with the kitchen and dining spaces looking toward a covered terrace and garden pool.
The Brief
Rare Builders completed an addition to and renovation of the existing home at 1126 Reading Drive in College Park. The finished residence moves from a front sitting area with tall windows to a white kitchen and adjoining dining room. Repeated transom windows and glazed doors connect the interiors visually with the garden.
The Response
The kitchen centers on a white island with an apron-front sink. A recessed alcove keeps small appliances beneath open shelves, with wood-grain drawers adding contrast to the white cabinetry. The dining room has its own built-in display alcove and paired glazed doors. At the front, tall openings, pale ceiling beams and horizontal wall boards define the sitting area; a star-shaped pendant provides a smaller interior detail. Outside, square paving stones set in a planted grid lead through the lawn beside the pool. A covered terrace with seating and an outdoor grill runs along the rear elevation, while arcing water jets animate the pool.
