The Build

A custom residence is the result of connected decisions made over time. Rare Builders organizes the work from the first reading of the property through the completed home, keeping design, scope and construction in conversation.

  1. 01

    Site and Feasibility

The work begins with the property. Lot dimensions, access, grade, drainage, existing trees, neighboring homes, privacy, sunlight and the relationship to outdoor space are reviewed before the plan is treated as resolved.

  2. 02

    Design Coordination

Architecture, interiors, structure, building systems and landscape affect one another. Coordination brings those decisions together early enough for openings, ceiling conditions, cabinetry, lighting and exterior spaces to develop as parts of one residence.

  3. 03

    Scope and Pricing

Drawings, selections and specifications define what is included. As the design develops, scope and pricing are reviewed together so decisions can be understood before they are incorporated into the work.

  4. 04

    Planning the Work

Construction depends on sequence. Permitting, procurement, trade coordination and site logistics are organized around the approved documents and the conditions of the property.

  5. 05

    Structure and Envelope

Foundation, framing, roofing, exterior walls, windows and doors establish the durable shell of the residence. Their interfaces are coordinated carefully because work concealed later remains fundamental to performance.

  6. 06

    Systems and Interiors

Mechanical, electrical and plumbing work is coordinated with lighting, cabinetry, stone, tile, millwork and fixtures. Decisions are reviewed in relation to both technical requirements and the finished rooms.

  7. 07

    Completion

The final phase brings together finish work, testing, review and correction. Completion is a measured process of resolving the residence as built and preparing it for daily use.
